PIANO  : Prokaryote-phytoplankton interactions

in Antarctic ice sheet melting environments: the key role of iron

01 October 2025

Start of PhD work

Alizée Berthelot is back at LOMIC. During her Master's 2 internship at the laboratory, Alizée studied the impact of the melting of the Cook Ice Cap on the composition of microbial communities in the coastal waters of the Kerguelen Islands (Southern Ocean). Alizée has been awarded a thesis grant from the Université du Littoral, Côte d’Opale to study the bioavailability of iron contained in glacial material for phytoplankton and marine bacteria. The thesis is part of the ANR PIANO project and will be co-supervised by Urania Christaki (LOG, Wimereux) and Ingrid Obernosterer (LOMIC).
